Quickstart

Get betterfound live on your storefront in under 10 minutes. You need a betterfound account, your product API URL, and access to your site's HTML.

Step 1 — Create your account

Sign up at app.betterfound.ai. During onboarding you will be asked to name your tenant (your store name) and choose your primary region (EU or US). This cannot be changed later as it determines where your data lives.

Step 2 — Connect your product catalogue

In the dashboard, go to Data Sources → Add data source. Paste the URL of your product API. betterfound supports:

  • Shopify Storefront API (GraphQL)
  • WooCommerce REST API
  • Any JSON endpoint that returns an array of products
  • Custom GraphQL endpoints

betterfound will fetch a sample and auto-map the fields (name, price, description, image, URL). Review the mapping in the schema review step and adjust any fields it missed.

If your API requires authentication, add your API key or bearer token in the Auth headers field. betterfound stores it encrypted at rest.

Step 3 — Run enrichment

Once the data source is saved, betterfound will run the enrichment agent in the background. This analyses your product descriptions and extracts intent tags (e.g. waterproof, beginner_friendly, 4k_video) that make search significantly more accurate. Enrichment typically finishes in 2–5 minutes for catalogues under 1,000 products.

Step 4 — Configure the widget

Go to Widget → Appearance. Set:

  • Mode — floating, inline, or overlay
  • Theme — light or dark
  • Primary colour — matches your brand
  • Layout — list, grid, or carousel for product results

Use the live preview to see changes before publishing. You can also set a custom greeting message and fallback text for when no products match.

Step 5 — Install the script tag

Copy your embed snippet from Widget → Install and paste it before the closing </body> tag on every page where the widget should appear.

Step 6 — Verify the installation

Visit your storefront in a new tab. The betterfound widget should appear within a few seconds of page load. Type a product query and confirm results appear.

If the widget does not appear, check:

  1. The script tag is in the correct position (before </body>)
  2. The data-tenant attribute matches your tenant ID exactly
  3. Your data source returned at least one product during the test fetch
  4. There are no Content Security Policy errors in the browser console
If your site uses a strict Content Security Policy, add cdn.betterfound.ai to your script-src and connect-src directives.
